Week Three

Our third Sunday proved to be very productive. With two machines at work, everyone was very fully occupied. Roger with Matt and then Dafydd “up top” finished the installation of all the festoon cable, which is a good milestone.

Meanwhile, David W and Kevin up top were preparing some new catenary work for a new set piece (details will have to wait until switch-on!) plus new festoon cables to fill in the rather dark spot by the Falcon. One of the crew, who will remain nameless, was heard to ask, “Can’t you stop adding stuff every year??!!”. Seemingly not! Anyway, we rounded up the day by putting up the first set pieces in the square.

There has been a lot of work on ropelight in the workshop this week, and more to be done. We seem to have come out of last year’s display with a number of irritating minor faults which take hours to fix, and we discovered more when erecting “Envelopes” today. The problems seemingly emanate from a batch of ropelight with defective weatherproofing, which has wasted a lot of our time. Oh well. Pass the pliers……
